Healthy organizations grow when leaders pay attention to both people and the conditions around them. Inspired by the redwood forest, the ECOleadership Operating System™ gives you a practical way to see what needs attention, take action, and keep learning as your organization grows.
The tree rings show four stages of growth. Three domains run through every stage: Empower, Connect, and Optimize.

How to read the operating system
Start at the center: SEED
Every new role, idea, or initiative begins with a seed. Clarify your purpose, name what you hope to grow, and choose an intentional first step.
Move outward: ROOT → GROW → HARVEST
-
ROOT: Ground your work in values, build trust, and create a stable foundation.
-
GROW: Develop people and ideas, strengthen collaboration, and expand what works.
-
HARVEST: Recognize results, gather what you have learned, and use those insights to guide what comes next.
Look across three domains
At any stage, ask where your attention is needed:
-
Empower: Who needs more support, ownership, or room to grow?
-
Connect: Who or what needs to be better connected?
-
Optimize: What needs to be changed, simplified, strengthened, or allowed to end?
Growth does not move neatly from one ring to the next. A mature organization can plant a new seed, and an established team may need to rebuild trust at the roots. Return to the operating system whenever you face a new challenge. Use it to understand the conditions around you and create the conditions for people and organizations to thrive.
